The Health Development Program aims to target high need population groups and utilise the funding for health promotion to support programs that work with consumers from these communities.
Health promotion priority areas have been identified through the process of researching our local community health and social needs.
The priority areas currently include:
- Improving the community's accessibility to physical activity
- Community Health and Drama - Health education using interactive drama techniques with young people
- Addressing social isolation in an elderly Italian community
- Supporting isolated families who are experiencing disadvantage
The Health Development program will continue to move towards working within a population health approach enabling Ranges to support communities that may not otherwise access our service.

Community Health & Drama Project (CHAD)
|
Ranges Community Health Service has been examining an exciting, effective and evidence-based model to present health information, moving away from the traditional health education sessions.
Drama can be especially effective in changing the way we think and behave. By taking on roles and stepping into imaginary situations, we can explore what people think and do in all aspects of their lives. By doing this we increase our understanding of human behaviour and develop empathy for the feelings and experiences of others.
The Community Health & Drama program, CHAD, incorporates a combination of knowledge-based and skill-based components to provide an opportunity for students to 'rehearse for life' and develop their problem solving and help-seeking skills (Health Education in the Middle Years, Helen Cahill, 2002).

Physical Activity

Participation in the Primary Care Partnership for improving access to physical activity has been a priority for Ranges over the past year.
Two programs have been extensively evaluated and support the evidence base for physical activity program development. Thus being, the No Falls program and The Older But Stronger program.
